A Poem for the New Year
On Rosh Hashanah, it is written
On Yom Kippur, it is sealed.
How many will pass on, and how many will be born?
Who will live, and who will die?
Who by fire, and who by water?
Who by beeper, and who by pager?
Who by walkie-talkie, and who by electric toothbrush?
Who by backfiring rockets, and who by bunker busters?
Who by space laser, and who by controlled hurricane?
Who by Jewish Genie and who by white colonizer?
But co-existence, non-genocidal intent, and neighborly comportment
Temper the wrath of the defiant Yid.
